DESCRIPTION:Due to the bone atrophy and pneumatization of the maxillary sinus, inadequate bone height in the posterior maxilla can complicate dental implant treatment. Many techniques have been described in the literature to elevate the floor of the maxillary sinus and allow dental implant placement. Although different safe and effective sinus lifting techniques have been well-documented for almost 50 years, numerous complications and comorbidities still encountered during clinical practice. In this lecture, the parameters that directly influence the selection of sinus lifting technique will be explained in detail through endoscopic videos showing the underlying biology and sinus function. Additionally, the risk factors for maxillary sinus complications will be addressed and when preoperative otolaryngologic evaluation and advanced imaging of the sinuses is necessary for sinus lift candidates will be enlightened.
